What is a browser Plug-In?

Simply stated, a plug-in is a browser "add-on" to allow support for a particular client-side feature. i.e. The "Flash" plug-in is required to for the browser to run Flash animations. The "Real-Audio" plug-in is required to play Real-Audio sound clips. etc.
